There’s nothing like heading out and getting the freshest fruit and vegetables, homemade baked goods, and unique handmade crafts, all in one place. Market season has begun in the Okanagan, and while public health restrictions are still in place, organizers in the region are doing everything they can to ensure their markets are safe for everyone. Here’s our guide to the local favourites . . .
1) Kelowna
The largest market in the area, the Kelowna Farmers and Crafters Market, runs on Wednesdays and Saturdays starting in April and through to October. They also hold a Summer Satellite market in July and August, giving everyone one more weekly opportunity to shop on Sundays. As much as folks may want to linger and socialize at the market, organizers encourage patrons to shop and go in order to comply with public health restrictions. 2) Penticton
Open for the season, the Penticton Farmers Market takes place every Saturday until the end of October. Due to the public health regulations, they have scaled back the number of vendors and will only be offering produce and food-based products at this time. 3) Summerland
Standing out from the crowd, the Summerland Farmers Market runs on Tuesday mornings at the Summerland Legion parking lot. They have an array of food products, plus jewellery, wood crafts, and flowers. The community also has the Sunday Farmers’ and Crafters’ Market, operating in the arena parking lot. 4) Peachland
They’re “the little market that cares” and are putting together their vendors for the 2021 season. The Peachland Farmers and Crafters Market runs on Sundays in Heritage Park starting May 30th. 5) West Kelowna
You’ll have to wait a bit longer for our most local market as it opens in the summer. But it’s worth the wait. The Westbank Farmers Market sets up shop at the Westridge Shopping Centre and will usually have an array of local produce, homemade baking, and canned goods, woodworking, jewellery, and much more.
